Caritas Murang’a Programmes:
As the official humanitarian and development arm of the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a,
we coordinate all emergency relief responses, livelihood interventions,
capacity building, advocacy and governance, and gender issues within the Diocese. Our aim is to liberate all of God’s people from the adverse effects of social exclusion & exploitation through the following programmes:
ADVOCACY AND GOVERNANCE CATEGORY:
Governance of any country cannot be proper without full participation of the people. One way of doing this is by ensuring that there is change of the local people in their participation in governance and political activities. Through this project, people will be capacitated to advocate for transparency and accountability through exercising of their rights and eventually uplift their living standards
More about the programmeLIVELIHOODS AND HUMANITARIAN CATEGORY:
The program entails addressing the impairments of children living with disability to functional state and removing the barriers (social, communicative, attitudinal, and physical) in the environment to enable them realize their rights and have equal opportunities in life. Majority of them are placed in schools and rehabilitation centers. This project addresses the plight of 50 children and youngsters living with disability mainly in health, education, enabling environment and household economic strengthening.

Mutirima Savings and Credit Association was established as a micro-savings and credit scheme in 2009 by the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a under the Caritas Department. Over the years, Mutirima Savings and Credit Association has targeted Self – Help Groups (SHGs) from various Catholic parishes within the Diocese. Mutirima is currently undergoing restructuring to better position itself as a strong institution providing top – of – the – range financial solutions for wealth creation and improved livelihoods of the local communities.
